Ice Skating: Thank you to those of you who are able to join us ice skating on Tuesday! We
will be leaving Lincoln School at 8:45 and return at 10. We really appreciate your help
supporting getting correct skate sizes and being available to tie and support skaters as they

Tardiness: As someone who has to put forward quite a bit of effort to be on time I
understand how difficult it can be. That being said, I have a HUGE concern with how
many students are tardy each day. I start the day promptly at 8:35 so if your child comes
in after that time, they are already starting their day behind. Research conducted by
the US Department of Education on truancy shows that students "who are frequently
tardy have lower grades, scores on standardized assessments, and graduation rates.
Chronic tardiness in elementary and middle school is associated with failure in high
school." PLEASE consider what being late is doing to your child's start of the day and
the start of his or her education. Thank you for your consideration.

Vacation Reading: Please help your child maintain his/her reading stamina by continuing
to read 15 - 20 minute nightly during our vacation from school. Many students are reading
much more than the required 15 minutes and learning to make reading a natural part of
their day. We appreciate your support.

IXL, Moby Max, RAZ, and Spelling City are available during winter break to maintain
your child’s skill level. A few minutes of practice periodically throughout our vacation can
help your child feel confident when he/she returns to school in January.
